On the grounds that many people believe high budget tv shows are now where the action is, rather than in the samey and dubsteppy multiplexes, I thought it would be worth having a thread for thoughts on the stuff that fits somewhere in between feature films and youtube videos. Same drill as the 'review last film' one if possible, but no need to review the whole shebang, just give us a couple of sentences on what you're watching and why it sucks.
Gotham
Well, that was a thing that happened. Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon is a tower of strength in what was otherwise a very shakey opening episode. Obviously the big draw here is that everything happens in the world where Batman's nemesises (nemesi?) exist, but the show does its damnedest to remind you of this every five seconds, dropping in nascient versions of all the old favourites at every turn, rather than carefully building up to a reveal, as would surely have been preferable. Robin Lord Taylor makes a credible fist from a thankless introduction as the soon-to-be Penguin, but most other villain cameos range from broad pastiche (Forensic Scientist Riddler) to downright cringeworthy (Hot Topic teenybopper Catwoman). I'll stick with it a little longer yet, but reading between the lines, this feels like a muddled grab for the 'young adult' audience and I've got far better things to waste my time on than that.
